We are pleased to announce that Hugo Pedder has been co-opted onto the BMS Medical Advisory Council as Statistical advisor to the BMS.

Hugo, together with BMS medical advisory council member, Jo Marsden, undertook an enormous amount of statistical analysis in order to update the BMS Consensus Statement: Risks and benefits of HRT before and after a breast cancer diagnosis. This was following the publication of the meta-analysis of 24 prospective observational studies The Lancet last August.

Hugo Pedder is a statistician working within the Population Health Sciences department at the University of Bristol. For several years he worked for the National Guideline Alliance developing guidelines for NICE, during which time he contributed to guidelines for menopause, endometriosis and heavy menstrual bleeding among others.He studied neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh and Uppsala University, before going on to do an MSc in medical statistics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Hugo is also a Statistical Ambassador for the Royal Statistical Society and works with the Science Media Centre’s Before the Headlines group, helping to improve statistical literacy and understanding of science in the wider public.
