We are very pleased to announce the publication of a new BMS Tool for Clinicians – Measurement of serum estradiol in the menopause transition.
Hormone replacement therapy aims to give sufficient estrogen to manage symptoms of the menopause and reduce the long-term health consequences of the menopause.
Uptake of HRT has increased significantly over recent years and whilst it is the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms, HRT may not be effective in managing every potential symptom of menopause. Where there are ongoing distressing symptoms for women using HRT, clinicians may consider measuring a serum estradiol level to attempt to check absorption.
This BMS Tool for Clinicians will increase understanding of the significance of estradiol blood test results as well as highlight uncertainties around the value of a single serum estradiol level.
We would like to offer our thanks to Dr Clare Spencer and Dr Heather Currie who have developed this document, in collaboration with the BMS medical advisory council.
