Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and early menopause (EM) affect an estimated 4% and 12% of women respectively, with significant adverse health and psychological impacts.
In 2024, the International Menopause Society (IMS), in partnership with the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI), Monash University, developed and published the updated 2024 ESHRE POI guideline.
Building on this work, two further initiatives are underway: the formation of an IMS Special Interest Group (SIG) on ovarian ageing, menopause, POI and genetics, and a research project led by MCHRI to develop a digital risk prediction tool for POI and EM, known as the PPP study. Further information on the PPP study is available on the Monash University website.
The British Menopause Society (BMS) is supporting an International Menopause Society (IMS) survey to inform a new IMS Special Interest Group on ovarian ageing, menopause, POI and genetics.
Who should take part
Input is sought from healthcare professionals, researchers, trainees, consumer advocates and other professionals with an interest in ovarian ageing, menopause, POI and genetics.
What participation involves
Participants are asked to read the participant explanatory statement before completing an online survey, which takes approximately 10 minutes. Participation is voluntary.
The study has been approved by the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).
